NavMem – Navigation Support for Older Travellers with Memory Decline
NavMem is a cooperative EU project with the Swedish Stroke Association, Lund University, Asando (a Swedish company), and European partners in The Netherlands and Germany. The project is funded by the Commission of the European Union in the framework of the AAL (Ambient Assisted Living) Joint Programme and Vinnova (Sweden's Innovation Agency).
The practical work is being carried out by researchers at Certec in cooperation with the Swedish Stroke Association in Malmö, Astando AB, OFFIS, SIEMENS and Roessingh Research and Development. The goal of NavMem is to develop a system that increases the ability of older travellers with memory problems to navigate outdoors. It will reduce their fear of getting lost without the feeling that they are being led around. The target group is people who have memory disorders resulting from a stroke or other illness, disorders that affect their ability to orientate themselves. The intention is that our system will be an easy and simple navigation system that can also be used by people who do not have memory problems.
