The course is primarily intended for professionals actively working in (re)habilitation, psychiatry and schools. Its aim is for students to get a practical education that is professionally applicable in the area of neuropsychiatry and rehabilitation pedagogics.

Assessment: Assessment of student performance is based on the individual assignments submitted throughout the course. The course is process oriented and based more on the student’s ability to analyze situations and problems than on the factual information studied. A grade of VG (pass with distinction) will be given to students who distinguish themselves in demonstrating the ability to analyze and reflect on the knowledge acquired and written presentation of the material in a manner that exhibits independent thinking in relation to the course contents.

Aim:
The course is primarily intended for professionals actively working in (re)habilitation, psychiatry and schools. Its aim is for students to get a practical education that is professionally applicable in the area of neuropsychiatry and rehabilitation pedagogics. 

Knowledge and understanding:
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to describe the psychiatric diagnoses from a psychiatric-historical and a theory of science perspective.
• be able to describe the symptoms of the neuropsychiatric diagnoses by analyzing a number of fictitious case studies. 
• be able to apply a systematic procedure when observing persons in need of a rehabilitation-pedagogical approach during evaluation and treatment. This will be done by producing a written case report.  
• be able to interpret the difficulties a person with Asperger's Syndrome has in his or her daily life and report appropriate corrective measures in the form of cognitive assistance or pedagogics. 
• be able to analyze and reflect upon his or her own learning and profession on a micro as well as macro level by using theories in pedagogics and adult learning in working life. 

Skills and ability:
For a passing grade the student must 

• be able to transform acquired knowledge from the course literature and lectures into practical recommendations in case studies as well as to relate the knowledge to rehabilitation-pedagogical or rehabilitation-technological measures.  

Values and attitudes:
For a passing grade the student must 

• be able to reflect on and value knowledge from a theory of science perspective, taking into account that the progress of knowledge is dependent of the theories of different paradigms.  

Content:

The course is entirely offered as distance learning over the internet. All sections of the course conclude with individual asignments. The course consists of the following sections:  

1. "Understanding different psychology":

• About diagnoses: The psychiatric diagnoses from a psychiatric-historical and theory of science perspective. 
• About observations: From observation to practical pedagogics/treatments. 
• Living with Asperger's Syndrome (lecturer: Gunne Norrö). 

2. "Developing your professional role":

• The students will analyze and reflect on their own learning and role in relation to their profession as and their organisation, and based on theories of pedagogics and adult learning at work.
